Marnicks, which has been a popular motel and restaurant destination at the Stratford Sea Wall for more than six decades, officially closed over the weekend, as the owner reportedly sold the location to an undisclosed buyer. The sale was expected to be finalized this week.
According to multiple reports, employees were given very little notice, and were alerted to the closure late after their shifts on Friday, leaving most scrambling to find new positions elsewhere. There has been no reason for the sale released by the now-former owner, Nick Quattone, though the family had reportedly been looking to sell the property recently.
It is not clear whether the new owners will reopen the restaurant and hotel, or repurpose the property.
